JK2007

The JK at Easter was (I think), enjoyed by all the CHIG runners that travelled across to the West Country to enjoy great weather and some challenging courses. Graham Gristwood has written a very good report of the event on Planet Fear (www.planetfear.com) and you can see some of the JK maps (along with hundreds more!) on Øystein Kvaal Østerbø’s website: http://folk.ntnu.no/oysteios.

Notable JK Performances

JK Sprint

  • John Duffield 5th Super Vets

JK Day 2&3

  • Jeff Green 6th M35L
  • Robin Campbell 4th M70L
  • Ruby Campbell 6th W70L

JK Relays

The Relay event on Easter Monday was probably the only event in history where competitors had to negotiate an unmapped train! Unfortunately I failed to spot that our Men’s M165+ team had been entered in the M120+ class until it was too late to get this corrected. On top of this, Tim Pribul had to pull out with a bad knee but persuaded Mike Brett (LOK/CHIG) to step in and run first leg. John Duffield ran second with Tom Edelsten finishing in a respectable 27th place.
The Men’s Short team also did well with Mark Ford off first, George Pribul second and a strong finish by our guest Czech runner Bronislav Pribul to finish 10th.

SE Score Championships

Last weekend saw 20 CHIG members travel down to Hindleap Warren (part of Ashdown Forest). We didn’t quite hold onto last year’s position: Southdowns won comfortably (as they did last year), Mole Valley were second and CHIG came third – still an excellent result for a club of our size.

British Championships

Looking ahead to the British Championships weekend (5/6th May), 14 of us are competing in the individual championships and we have a strong team in the M/W60+ relay class in John Pearce, Carol Pearce and Tom Edelsten. In case you didn’t get a good look at the 2004 edition of the map at the JK, I’ll stick it up in my car window this Sunday (look out for a green VW Golf estate, with a map in the window). Try to memorise the contours, ‘cos that’s all there is to go on!!

Good Luck everyone!
