North London Street League – Leyton
Event Overview
The format of this evening event makes it suitable for both adult beginners and experienced adult orienteers alike. Juniors may only participate if accompanied by an adult. Walk or run and see how many locations you can find within the one hour time limit. The map is not very technical at this event – click here for a sample of the simple map type used!
Map and Terrain
The map is 1:10,000, black and white, with only streets and paths marked. The height variation is negligible. It will either be printed on waterproof paper, with the clues on the back, or be printed on paper with a separate clue sheet, with a polythene bag.
Registration
At the Coach and Horses, High Road, Leyton, E10 5NA. (“a fine traditional pub – just like your granddad sank pints in” fancyapint.com).
Directions
Train or bus to Leyton Central line station, and turn right. The pub is about 600m along the High Road on the right.
If you drive, there are no parking restrictions in the side streets at this time of night; whether there are spaces is another matter.
Equipment
You are advised to bring a torch and compass, as well as a pen to mark your answers. The traffic is generally not heavy or fast, but light coloured clothing for extra visibility is advised.
Entry Fees
CHIG senior members £2, senior members of other orienteering clubs, £3, non-members £4. Non-members who join CHIG by the end of the year will get a refund. Juniors are not allowed to run street events unless accompanied by an adult.
