Results: Saturday Parks League – Wanstead Park

Report

The first event in the Saturday Parks League was held at Wanstead Park this morning, 14 September. The light rain even stopped for the event itself, with competitors faced with a score course with a 45 minute time limit.
The series is a pilot project to refine the format and determine the demand for such a series. This launch event attracted a mixture of club members and relative newcomers to orienteering.
Seven competitors visited all 25 controls within the time limit. Of these, Mark Ford was home first, just ahead of Russell Peters with Tony Maycraft third. Kate Brett was the sole female to visit all controls with Owen Haigh the sole junior. Six of these seven competitors earned time bonuses for finishing one minute or more before the time limit.
Among the newcomers, David Newton impressed visiting all controls and earning time bonuses. Among the juniors and family groups, Lachlan Haigh was just one control short with 24 while the youngest competitors on the day Luca and Douglas Chan both finished with a score of 19 points.
The series moves on to Victoria Park for the second event in October.
