MITRE Regional Event 20 Nov 2011 – Organisers Report

The biggest problem in organizing an orienteering event in Epping Forest is finding adequate car parking for around 200 cars. Some of our old places are no longer useable due to the increasing popularity of Epping Forest with other users.

Thanks therefore to St John’s School, Epping for providing such spacious car parking, even with a junior football match taking place, and proper toilets. Thanks also to Regal Busways who seemed to provide a seamless transport to and from the start/ finish area. Hence the block start times.

The biggest plus on the day was the brilliant weather – almost wall to wall sunshine. This was the first time for a few years that we had such good weather for the Mitre. I had several stories from competitors regarding the foggy weather along the M1 and M25, and sunshine after leaving junction 26.

Such an event was supported by 30 CHIG (and CUOC) helpers – a fair proportion of our club, so a big thank you to all helpers who made the day such a success. Some helpers even had a run, so could experience a dryer than normal forest.

Thanks also to St John Ambulance – only a sprained ankle to treat.

Finally than you to the City of London Corporation’s Epping Forest conservators for making the event happen.
