Event Overview

Orienteering in the southern section of Epping Forest, London, E11.  There will be courses suitable for both beginners and experienced orienteers.  Any queries contact the Organiser (see above).

Forest orienteering event with a range of courses (“colour-coded” according to length and difficulty) which forms part of SWELL 2018-19.  Courses to suit all ages from under 10’s to over 80’s. Adult beginners with a running background may prefer “Orange” or “Light Green” courses. For children under 10, “White” or “Yellow” courses will be best suited. Older juniors should enter “Orange” or “Light Green” depending on experience.

Mapped Area

The map will extend south of the event centre, with the start and finish (within c. 50 m of one another) around 500m walk from the event centre.

The longest courses (Blue and Brown) will travel as far south as Hollow Pond. The northernmost part of the map overlaps in part with the map from our Epping Walthamstow Forest event in November 2016. The rest of the map was last used in April 2013.

Map: Epping South 1:10,000.

Mixed deciduous woodland and forest.

Terrain

Largely flat, a mixture of open land and dense forest with an extensive path network, but with enough detail to make it a fair navigational challenge.

Entries

Entry forms will be available at the event on the day. It will also be possible to complete your registration form prior to the event on this page, beginning mid February – although you should pay your entry fee on the day.
