Orienteering Training Evening @ Olympic Park
Olympic Park Ave
London E20
UK
Learn or improve your orienteering skills with this training event at the Olympic Park. We will be using the permanent orienteering courses based in the park and the training should last for approximately one hour. You do not need to be a club member to attend – all are welcome.
Meeting Point
Meet next to the Info Point located adjacent to the Aquatic Centre.
Travel
It is recommended to come by public transport where possible, to either Stratford (bus, Central, Jubilee, Overground, TFL Rail, Greater Anglia, DLR) or Stratford International (DLR, South Eastern). Pass through Westfield Stratford crossing over Westfield Avenue near John Lewis (external doors) heading towards the Aquatic Centre. The info point is on the right.
What Will I Learn?
For beginners: CHIGs club coach, Tim Dedman will be in attendance, along with other club members who can help you interpret the map and offer tips on how to navigate successfully before trying one of the courses available.
For club members: We will focus on various techniques that will help you with urban orienteering, plus you will have an opportunity to learn how to handle challenges such as route choice when there multiple levels and uncrossable features.
Available Courses
Each week, one of the three South Park courses will be used.
Week 1: Short 1.6km
Week 2: Long
Week 3: Medium 2.6km
After the third week, we will move to the North Park, with the meetup point different for those weeks.
Kit & Equipment
Wear trainers and something you will be comfortable running (or walking) in. Bring a cagoule if the weather looks like it might be wet! If you have a compass, bring it along, although this is not essential.
Afterwards
We will go for a drink at The Cow afterwards (just across the road in Westfield Stratford) – you are welcome to join if you wish.
