North London Street League – Stratford
47 Broadway
Stratford, London Borough of Newham, E15
UK
Part of the North London Street League 2012/13.
Event Overview
The format of this evening event makes it suitable for both adult beginners and experienced adult orienteers alike. Juniors may only participate if accompanied by an adult. Walk or run and see how many locations you can find within the one hour time limit. The map is not very technical at this event – click here for a sample of the simple map type used!
Map and Terrain
The map is 1:10,000, black and white, with only streets and paths marked. The height variation is negligible. It will be printed on waterproof paper, with the clues on the back.
Registration
At the King Edward VII, 47 Broadway, Stratford, E15 4BQ. http://www.kingeddie.co.uk/ (“easily the best pub in Stratford” Time Out).
Directions

Buses stop right outside the pub. http://goo.gl/maps/Mcjmw
The Course
A one hour score course, with control sites worth between 10 and 50 points mostly, but not exclusively according to how far away they are. You will be given a choice of three answers – circle the correct one.
This is a control visiting event! Circling answers at controls you have not visited, on the off chance you get it right, is cheating.
Your score will be reduced by 2% of the points scored for every minute or part minute late.
The leading man and woman will score 100 points, second place 99 etc. In addition, your score will be increased by a multiple depending on your age and sex, and the resultant points used in the same way for a handicap competition.
Equipment
You are advised to bring a torch and compass, as well as a pen to mark your answers. The traffic is generally not heavy or fast, but light coloured clothing for extra visibility is advised.
Fees
CHIG senior members £2, senior members of other orienteering clubs, £3, non-members £4. Non-members who join CHIG by the end of the year will get a refund. Juniors are not allowed to run street events unless accompanied by an adult.
