Event Overview

Orienteering in the southern section of Epping Forest, London, E11.  There will be courses suitable for both beginners and experienced orienteers.  Any queries contact the Organizer (see above).

Forest orienteering event with a range of courses (“colour-coded” according to length and difficulty) which forms part of SWELL 2012-13.  Courses to suit all ages from under 10’s to over 80’s. Adult beginners with a running background may prefer “Orange” or “Light Green” courses. For children under 10, “White” or “Yellow” courses will be best suited. Older juniors should enter “Orange” or “Light Green” depending on experience.

Directions

From A12 leave at the Green Man roundabout in Leytonstone.  Take the northbound A11 (marked A1199 on some maps) towards South Woodford. Continue on A11 at fork then turn right at next traffic lights onto Wanstead High Street.  Immediately turn right into Station Approach and drive to entrance of NCP car park in Snaresbrook station. From the A406 (North Circular) leave at A104 junction and head south on A104.  After 1.2 miles take first left at roundabout onto A114.  At next roundabout (Green Man) take first left onto A11 towards South Woodford.  Then as above.

Public Transport

Leytonstone and Snaresbrook underground stations are nearby.

Snaresbrook (Central Line): A CHIG volunteer will be based at Snaresbrook station until 11:00. the route from Snaresbrook to registration will be taped.

Leytonstone (Central Line): This is slightly shorter to the start, although route will not be taped. Walk along Church Lane then left into High Road Leytonstone. At the roundabout, cross into the forest (between Whipps Cross Road and Hollybush Hill.

Buses: A number of bus routes converge close to the start. Nearest bus stop is Leyton Way (Stop PP, route 257). Green Man Roundabout is also served by bus W19.

Car Park

GR TQ401888, Snaresbrook Central Line Tube Station car park £1;   postcode: E11 1QE. Where possible, share transport or take the Tube. A CHIG volunteer will be based at Snaresbrook station until 11:00. the route from Snaresbrook to registration will be taped.

Facilities

Bag storage tent beside the Start and Registration. Finish is 400m from baggage tent.

Start & finish are close to High Road Leytonstone, with a range of shops and food outlets. Cash machine and customer toilets in the nearby Tesco (open 10:00-16:00), less than 5 mins from the start. Boat hire at Hollow Ponds (on the map).

Terrain

Largely flat, a mixture of open land and dense forest with an extensive path network, but with enough detail to make it a fair navigational challenge.

EPS-SI on all courses. Dibber hire £1.00 (free hire for juniors).

Entries

Please submit your entry details online before the event (by 10pm on night before event). If your entry details are completed online, just pay your entry fee and collect any hired dibbers at the registration desk in car park. Otherwise please download and print the entry form and complete, and bring with you on the day.

Results

We will aim to have results published on the web (www.chig.org.uk) as soon as possible after the event.
