Central Line StreetO Series – Race 5 – Bethnal Green

This is a late addition to the League for this season, however as neighbouring club South London are hosting a StreetO at east London Central Line station, Bethnal Green, it made sense to include it! Please note that like the other StreetO races organised by South London, this is on a Tuesday night. Some other differences from CHIG organised races, is that you need to write down the full answer, i.e. they don’t provide multiple choice options for you! Also, instead of the 2% score penalty per minute late normally used for CHIG events, the time penalty is 1 point for every 3 seconds or part late.

Event Overview

The format of this evening event makes it suitable for both adult beginners and experienced adult orienteers alike. Juniors may only participate if accompanied by an adult. Walk or run and see how many locations you can find within the one hour time limit. The map is not very technical at this event – click here for a sample of the simple map type used!

A one hour score course, with control sites worth between 10 and 50 points, mostly, but not exclusively according to how far away they are. You will need to write down the answer onto the clue sheet at the back of the map. Answers must be marked in race time.

The scoring penalty for being late will be that used in the South London StreetO series, 1 point for every 3 seconds late.

League Scoring

The leading man and woman will score 100 points, second place 99 etc. In addition, your score will be increased by a multiple depending on your age and sex, and the resultant points used in the same way for a handicap competition.

This year, we will have a special series t-shirt/technical top (to feature the Central Line stations where events are located) for the winners of each of the Mens, Women’s and Handicap leagues.

Map & Terrain

The map is 1:10,000, with streets, paths and open areas marked. It will be printed on waterproof paper, with the clues on the back.

Results will be available after the event at www.chig.org.uk.

Equipment & Safety

You are advised to bring a torch and compass, as well as a pen to mark your answers. We hope to use electronic timing, so bring your own dibber if you have one.
The traffic is generally not heavy or fast, but light coloured clothing for extra visibility is advised.

Aprés Run

Join your fellow orienteers for a friendly drink, food and a chat and please support our host pub for this Race.
