Captain’s Blog – June 2007

Club Championships 16th June, Mardley Heath

This was my first Club Champs for a few years as it usually clashes with the Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon.

I really enjoyed it (beating Mark Ford helped!) and I’m already thinking ahead to planning next year’s event. Maybe on another neighbouring Club’s map…?

Congratulations to all the 2007 Club Champions:

2007 Club Champions
Category Name
Open Jeff Green
Women’s Open Kate Brett
Veteran Men John Duffield
Veteran Women Sally Lund
Handicap Peter Cheetham
Novice Claire Tansley

I think just about everyone that entered had a notable performance in one way or another!

Mardley Heath is a challenging area at any time of the year, particularly so when you add brambles and heavy rain.

Many thanks to the Cheethams for hosting the barbeque and prize-giving ceremony.

CHIG v HAVOC Round 1

CHIG had a convincing win with 62 points to 35 in the first of the series.

I thought Colin Flint’s Blue course was excellent with some interesting route choice decisions.

Well done to Alison Curtis and Tim Pribul who both scored the maximum 10 points on their courses.

Round 2 is on Wednesday on Epping South – please try to make it if you can. I hope my courses will be worth the effort.

Top Tips: Bear in mind that at this time of year any undergrowth marked on the map is likely to be quite healthy.

And don’t stand in one place for too long – there are some large mossies around!

Straggler’s Relays 1st July

We’ve had a great response this year with 4 full teams of 4 and a reserve.

So if you have to pull out for any reason, please let me know in advance so I can reorganise the teams.
